It’s not every day that you get to hear 7th and 8th grade students make the connection between literacy and leadership. That’s exactly what we got to do when we filmed the first video in our new “In Your Words” series, which captures the voices of students and educators across the country on big topics from leadership to literacy.
Our first video features young leaders from Thurgood Marshall Academy for Learning and Social Change in Harlem, New York. Throughout the school year, Middle School Director Marcella Carr used Classroom, Inc.’s learning game After the Storm to teach students that literacy will play an essential role in any career they choose. As students took on the role of editor-in-chief, they worked on their reading skills while also becoming adept at making tough decisions in a high-pressure work environment.
