Assessing Students on the Common Core Standards

Have you read Coming Together to Raise Achievement, New Assessments for the Common Core State Standards? This recently released resource provides a clear description of what the new assessments will measure and identifies steps on the path to a 2014 release of online assessment systems.

There are two national consortia working in parallel on assessment systems: the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC).   A total of 44 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the CCSS and belong to at least one of these two consortia. Their approaches differ but both are developing more powerful assessment systems that will provide timely data during the school year as well as year-end testing.
