Expanded Learning Time

 

 

The National Center on Time & Learning (NCTL) and the Ford Foundation are working together to make expanded learning time the “new normal” for schools in our nation’s underserved communities. Momentum is building to support this strategy to help students who are on the wrong side of the achievement gap. To learn why and how expanded learning time can help the nation's schools close the achievement gap, explore the findings of the report Learning Time in America: Trends to Reform the American School Calendar, A Snapshot of Federal, State and Local Action. In writing about the benefits of expanded learning time in a recent lead NY Times OpEd piece, “Shortchanged by the Bell," Luis A. Ubinas, President of the Ford Foundation, and Chris Gabrieli, Chairman of the National Center on Time & Learning showed that we will be hearing a lot more about this growing trend in the future.
